Central Asian countries and Russia agreed to establish a joint energy working group following expert consultations held in the Central Asia–Russia format on Jan. 22, 2026, in Moscow.
The decision provides for the creation of a working group at the deputy minister level with the participation of energy authorities from Turkmenistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Russia’s Energy Ministry said.
The platform will operate in a six-party format and focus on cooperation in the fuel and energy sector.
The working group is expected to serve as a mechanism for the systematic implementation of agreements approved at the highest level and to coordinate joint energy projects.
The sides also reviewed cooperation on implementing a joint action plan for 2025–2027, approved after the second Central Asia–Russia summit held in Dushanbe, as well as initiatives put forward by the region’s heads of state.
The first in-person summit of Central Asian leaders and Russia took place on Oct. 14, 2022, in Astana, Kazakhstan.
