Turkmenistan has invited U.S. partners to consider participation in the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India gas pipeline project, known as TAPI, National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in an interview with Al Arabiya during a visit to the United States, Turkmenistan’s state media reported.
Berdimuhamedov said the TAPI pipeline is open to interested companies and expressed hope that U.S. partners would provide an objective assessment of opportunities to participate in the project.
Construction of the first phase of TAPI, known as “Arkadagyň ak ýoly,” is continuing in Afghanistan, he said, noting that the project has received international support, including from the United States.
He said the pipeline has significant potential to meet the growing energy needs of South Asian countries and offers opportunities to access emerging markets in the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East.
Berdimuhamedov also said Ashgabat views the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline as one of the key avenues for diversifying energy flows and strengthening energy security across the continent.
