Silk farmers in Lebap province have set a target of producing 1,010 tons of cocoons in 2026, a valuable raw material for the silk industry.
Official Turkmen media reported Tuesday that the season began with farmers from the eastern districts of Koytendag, Dowletli, Kerki and Halach.
This season, Koytendag farmers plan to deliver 38 tons of cocoons from 1,042 boxes of silkworm eggs, Dowletli farmers aim for 46 tons from 1,259 boxes, while Kerki and Halaç farmers target 85 and 97 tons from 2,327 and 4,005 boxes, respectively.
Silkworms have already been bred early in these districts and distributed to farmers who signed contracts with units of the Lebapwelaýatýüpek production association. In other districts, silkworm eggs have been placed in incubators, and silk farms will soon begin raising the larvae.
