The Georgian Railway Joint Stock Company expects continued growth in cargo turnover from Turkmenistan amid steadily increasing freight volumes between the two countries, according to the company’s General Director, Lasha Abashidze.
As reported by Georgian media outlet 1tv.ge, Abashidze said Turkmen Railways remain a key partner for the Georgian side in regional transport and logistics cooperation. He noted that strong performance indicators were recorded this year, with freight flows maintaining a stable upward trajectory.
Abashidze added that both sides see significant potential for further expansion of transport cooperation and anticipate a substantial increase in cargo volumes by the end of the year.
The remarks came during Abashidze’s participation, alongside Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, in official talks in Ashgabat. The delegation also took part in the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Georgian Commission on Economic Cooperation, where transport and logistics connectivity was among the key topics on the agenda.
Bilateral discussions have increasingly focused on strengthening transit routes across the Caspian region, with rail freight seen as a central component of expanding trade flows between Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
