Afghanistan is preparing to commission the 500-kilovolt Sheberghan–Alwan Dashte power transmission line, which will increase electricity imports from Turkmenistan. Information on the project’s progress was presented at a meeting between representatives of Afghan Invest and Afghanistan’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar. This was reported by the Afghan broadcaster TOLOnews on its page on the social media platform X.

The project, implemented by the private company Afghan Invest, includes the construction of a high-voltage transmission line from Sheberghan to Alwan Dashte and the expansion of the Alwan Dashte substation. According to company representatives, the work is expected to be completed within the next four months.

According to the report, after completion, the new line will increase the volume of electricity imports from Turkmenistan. It is also expected to provide electricity to around 6 million rural households and generate about $42 million in additional annual revenue for the state budget.

Energy cooperation between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan remains one of the key areas of bilateral economic relations. The implementation of the Sheberghan–Alwan Dashte project will allow Afghanistan to increase electricity imports from Turkmenistan.
