Belgian airline Air Belgium successfully operated its first flight to Ashgabat International Airport on August 1, the Ashgabat International Airport reported.
According to the report, the first flight will contribute to the development of trade, economic and logistics cooperation between Turkmenistan and Belgium. Ashgabat International Airport has the necessary facilities to provide stable, safe and efficient services for cargo flights and plays an important role in Turkmenistan’s logistics and transportation system.
“This was our first flight to Ashgabat and we are very pleased with this opportunity. We would like to thank Ashgabat International Airport for creating this opportunity, its support in operating the flights and its hospitality. We hope to continue this cooperation for many years to come. This flight is very useful for us in transporting our cargo from Asia to Belgium,” said Mathieu Wituk, director of ground operations at Air Belgium.
As previously reported, preparations for launching cargo flights were discussed during a meeting between Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Belgium Sapar Palvanov and Air Belgium CEO George Shashati at the airline’s headquarters. An agreement to launch the flight was signed during talks held as part of Shashati’s visit to Turkmenistan.
