Turkish companies are ready to participate in investment projects in areas that will contribute to the modernization and sustainable economic development of Turkmenistan, Turkish Deputy Trade Minister Mahmut Gurjan reported Oct. 1 while speaking at a plenary session of the Turkmenistan Investment Forum (TIF 2026) in Ashgabat, according to correspondent for the Business Turkmenistan online publication attending the event.

According to Gurjan, Turkish companies are involved in developing financial and insurance activities in Turkmenistan, establishing textile factories and food industry enterprises, as well as in energy production and distribution. He said Turkish companies are ready to participate in investment projects that will contribute to Turkmenistan's modernization and sustainable economic development. Among the main areas, he highlighted long-term partnerships, technology and knowledge transfer, joint investments, and projects aimed at developing the country's production and export potential.

Trade between Türkiye and Turkmenistan totaled about $2 billion in 2025. The Deputy minister noted that the presidents of the two countries have set a goal of increasing the figure to $5 billion, adding that the necessary steps to achieve it are being taken consistently.

Gurjan identified conducting trade within a simple and orderly system as one of the key conditions for the sustainable development of trade relations. According to him, joint efforts to facilitate trade, digitalize customs processes and remove logistical barriers create additional opportunities for businesses.

The Deputy minister identified Turkmenistan's geographic location as one of its key advantages, describing the country as a natural link between Central Asia, the Caspian basin, the Caucasus, the Middle East and Europe. He said trans-Caspian connections, the Middle Corridor and trade routes to Europe through the Caspian Sea will become increasingly important for investors in the coming period. The capacity of the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi and regional railway connections also strengthen the country's potential.

Gurjan noted that in the coming period, not only investment in roads, railways and ports will be important, but also projects involving logistics centers, warehouse facilities, the digitalization of customs procedures, transport services and multimodal transportation. He also noted investment opportunities in agriculture and the agro-industrial sector.

In the energy sector, significant natural gas reserves provide a strong foundation for long-term cooperation, the Deputy minister noted. Further opportunities for investors are also being created by the development of the Galkynysh gas field entering new stages and work to develop hydrocarbon resources in the Caspian Sea. According to Gurjan, Turkmenistan's geographic location and developing logistics infrastructure allow the country to serve not only as an energy producer but also as an important part of regional trade and logistics networks.
