The high-level events in the framework of the chairmanship of Turkmenistan in the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) kicked off at the Yyldyz hotel in Ashgabat, Turkmen foreign Ministry said in a Monday press release.
The Series of SPECA events started with the session of the Working Group on Sustainable Transport, Transit and Connectivity, and the round table on trade policy.
The heads and representatives of the relevant ministries and departments of SPECA countries took part in the events.
During the meeting of the Working Group on Sustainable Transport, Transit and Connectivity, the participants discussed the implementation process of the signed agreements and exchanged views on the opportunities of enhancing the transport-transit systems in the region and beyond.
The participants of the high-level round table on trade policy discussed the peculiarities of trade-economic cooperation between the SPECA countries and made proposals on facilitating the procedures of carrying out commercial activities, including the improvement of investment climate.
SPECA was launched in 1998 to strengthen subregional cooperation in Central Asia and its integration into the world economy. The countries of SPECA are Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) jointly provide overall support to the Programme.
The Days of SPECA in Ashgabat will continue until November 21.
