Uzbekistan to Import Turkmen Electricity
Turkmenistan intends to bring the volume of electricity generated to 33 billion kilowatt hours by 2024.

Uzbekistan National Power Networks Joint Stock Company of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan concluded an agreement with Türkmenenergo State Electric Energy Corporation of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan on the purchase of electricity in 2019-2020 periods.

According to the Gazeta.uz, the Uzbek company announced that starting December 1, positive shifts will occur in the energy supply system.

Turkmenistan and the Asian Development Bank signed a contract worth $500 million in 2018 in order to modernize Turkmenistan’s transmission network. The agreement included the financing of the Ahal-Balkan and Balkan-Dashoguz high-voltage power line construction.

Turkmenistan intends to bring the volume of electricity generated to 33 billion kilowatt hours by 2024.

In this context, the integration of Turkmenistan into the energy system of Central Asia within the framework of the international project Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TUTAP) will create additional opportunities for increasing the volume of electricity exports.
