The groundbreaking ceremony of the Turkmen section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan power transmission line (TAP) was held on Saturday in Mary velayat’s Serhetabat etrap in the southeastern Turkmenistan.
Turkmen section of the 220 kW power transmission line will run from Mary power station to Turkmen-Afghan border, then further to the Herat city of Afghanistan. The power transmission line is expected to be commissioned in August 2021.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by heads and specialists of the electricity sector, velayat and etrap Hakimliks (administrations), as well as international partners. Speakers at the ceremony emphasized that the future power transmission line will provide an opportunity to export electricity to Pakistan and other countries of South Asia in transit through Afghanistan.
In accordance with the Decree signed by the head of state in January, the Ministry of Energy concluded an agreement with TAPP-500 PowerTransmissionLine FZE, a subsidiary of the Turkish ÇalikHolding A.Ş., on cooperation on the construction of a TAP power transmission line.
Back in January, International Electricity Projects Department in the TAP direction was established in the structure of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan. The Office will mainly deal with the implementation of the TAP power transmission line.
