Turkmenistan Appoints Permanent Representative to UNON, UNEP and UN-HABIBAT
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was established in 1992.

The permanent representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations office at Geneva Atageldi Haljanov was appointed as a permanent representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations office at Nairobi (UNON) (Republic of Kenya), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) (with residence in the Switzerland’s city of Geneva).

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed the relevant decree on Monday.

During the video conference meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan on April 10, the Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov made the proposal on the Haljanov’s appointment.

Founded in 1972, the UNEP is a programme of the UN that coordinates the organization's environmental activities and assists developing countries in implementing environmentally sound policies and practices.

Founded in 1978, the UN-HABITAT is the UN programme for human settlements and sustainable urban development.
