An online meeting at the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan with representatives of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on Thursday addressed main areas of bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, the parties primarily the discussed the participation of enterprises and organizations of Turkmenistan specializing in tourism, information and communication technologies in the international competition Healing Solutions Tourism Challenge, launched by the UNWTO with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The global challenge is aimed at finding effective solutions to mitigate the negative impact of COVID-19 on tourism sector and at identifying innovative ways to ensure the restoration of the sector in post-pandemic period.
The selected projects will be included in a digital booklet that will be distributed among 150 ministries around the world, will get an opportunity to share their solutions with world community through international presentation. The winners of the competition will also have access to the UNWTO Innovation Network.
The meeting participants also exchanged views on proposals for strengthening cooperation with the UNWTO and expanding international ties in the field of tourism.
The UNWTO is the United Nations specialized agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. The organization was established in 1974 and is headquartered in Madrid, Spain.
