Apple Inc on Tuesday unveiled four iPhone 12 models, with faster 5G connectivity and a new flatter-edged design that’s reminiscent of the iPhone 4.
Chief Executive Tim Cook stood at the company’s Cupertino, California, headquarters to kick off the event to reveal Apple’s new flagship devices, which was held by webcast.
According to the company’s statement, the core of the new line-up, the iPhone 12 with a 6.1-inch display, will sell for $799, while a Mini version with a 5.4-inch screen will be slightly cheaper at $699. A Pro version of the phones with three cameras and a new 3-D LIDAR sensor starts at $999, with the largest Pro Max version starting at $1,099 and going up to $1,399.
The displays on all of the new iPhones will feature a new “Ceramic Shield” technology that Apple built in partnership with Corning, which the company says improves the odds of devices surviving a fall by four times. The iPhone 12 and 12 Mini will come in blue, green, red, white and black, while the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will come in blue, gold, graphite and white colors.
Apple’s latest iPhones are powered by the company’s new A14 Bionic processor, which the company says is the first smartphone chip built on a 5nm process, leading to improved performance and efficiency.
Apple will be removing its included USB wall bricks and wired EarPod headphones from the box on the new iPhones as part of the company’s ongoing environmental goals.
Apple also unveiled a HomePod Mini smart speaker that will cost $99 and be shipped from Nov. 16.
