Vegetables and fruits are traditionally named after the geographical locations where they are grown.

Appellations of origin are widely used to individualize the products of manufacturers. The Law of Turkmenistan on Appellations of Origin of Products regulates relations arising in the field of legal protection and use of appellations of origin.

The name of the place of origin of products denotes a specific geographical object, characterizes the features associated with the natural conditions and ethnographic factors of this area.

During an online meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on January 29, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed to intensify work to streamline issues related to the appellation of origin of products.

Recently, specialists working in this direction conducted an online sociological survey, according to the results of which Tejen Waharman melon, Garrygala pomegranate and Chuli (currently Gokdere) apple were registered as appellations of origin.

Turkmen consumers also made proposals on the names of vegetables and fruits related to the geographical and historical places of the country, including Dashoguz rice, Badhyz pistachio, Yashlyk grapes, Nisa persimmon and Soltandepe Waharman melon.

Vegetables and fruits are traditionally named after the geographical locations where they are grown.

These activities related to development of brands for vegetables, melons and fruits is of immense importance in Turkmenistan. Agricultural production is constantly increasing in the country.
