The wheat harvest began in Turkmenistan on Friday. The wheat farmers of Ahal, Lebap and Mary velayats have started harvesting the grains, while the farmers of Balkan and Dashoguz velayats will join them on June 11.
From the allotted 690 thousand hectares of land, the farmers are expected to harvest 1.4 million tons of wheat, including 400 thousand tons in Ahal velayat, 345 thousand tons in Mary velayat, 310 thousand tons in Lebap velayat, 265 thousand tons in Dashoguz velayat and 80 thousand tons in Balkan velayat, the country’s official media reports.
The bulk of agricultural land was sown with high-yielding wheat varieties such as Sähraýy, Juwan, Bereketli, Ýolöten-1, Ýolöten-3, Türkmenbaşy-1, Goşant, Miras, Rowaç, Hasylly, and Watan.
Modern machinery, including 2,111 Claas, John Deere, Case and New Holland wheat harvesters, will be involved in the harvest season. The equipment will work around the clock.
On the occasion of the beginning of harvests in the velayats, production seminars were held with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, velayat and etrap hyakimliks (administrations), the Türkmenstandartlary (Turkmen Standards) Main State Service, Türkmenhimiýa (Turkmen Chemicals) State Concern, heads of farmers’ associations, agronomists, farmers and elders.
