Turkmen private sector exported 10.5 thousand tons of tomatoes in January this year, the major business union of the country – Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET) – announced on Thursday.
The tomatoes were mainly exported to Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the United Arab Emirates.
The union said the UIET member businesses take an active part in the cultivation of agricultural crops in greenhouses of Turkmenistan and that tomatoes grown by them are in high demand in international markets.
Turkmen businesses, which plan to increase the volume of tomato harvesting in the future, are constantly carrying out the necessary work in greenhouses, according to the business union.
Presently, 188 greenhouse complexes are under construction in Turkmenistan. The total area of the greenhouses under construction is 1,792 hectares. They are currently at various stages of completion of installation and commissioning works.
