Turkmen silkworm farmers successfully fulfilled their contractual obligations, handing over 2,300 tons of cocoons to state warehouses this year, Annageldy Yazmyradov, the Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Government in charge of the agro-industrial complex, briefed President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during an online meeting on Wednesday.
Expressing satisfaction with the results, President Berdimuhamedov instructed to hold ceremonial events in all provinces on the occasion and present gifts to distinguished cocoon growers and workers of specialized enterprises.
"In the future, we plan to increase the volume of investments into silkworm breeding, which will allow us to create additional jobs for our population and increase the production of valuable raw materials," President Berdimuhamedov said during the meeting.
Raw silk is the main resource of the country's enterprises producing silk products. Ashgabat Silk-reeling Factory and Turkmenabat Silk Production Association are the main enterprises for the processing of silk in Turkmenistan. Among them, the Turkmenabat Silk Production Association is considered the largest, as a result of which the Lebap velayat took responsibility for producing about half of the total production of silk raw materials in the country.
Last year, over 2,100 tons of cocoons were produced in Turkmenistan.
