The cargo turnover of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport exceeded 11.3 million tons in 2021, the Head of the Turkmenbashi port Seyitguly Bayseyidov said during his speech at the international conference "International Transport and Transit Corridors: Connectivity and Development" on Monday in Ashgabat.
He added that most of the these are export cargo – 6.58 million tons, while import cargo amounted to 1.21 million tons.
In his speech, Bayseyidov emphasized the geopolitical importance of the Turkmenbashi port in Eurasia. Situated on the Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) trade route, it can handle ships all year round, conduct loading and unloading operations round the clock. Its capacity is 17 million tons of cargo a year, not including oil products, he stated.
Seyitguly Bayseyidov also informed that 35 Turkmen private companies cooperate with the port, contributing to the development of its green infrastructure.
The two-day conference is organized on the initiative of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan. The main organizers of the conference are Türkmendemirýollary" (Turkmen Railways), Turkmenawtoulaglary (Turkmen Road Transport), Türkmendeňizderýaýollary (Turkmen Maritime and River Transport) and Türkmenhowaýollary (Turkmenistan Airlines) agencies, and the company Transport and Logistics Centre of Turkmenistan (TULM). The co-organizers of the conference are the Turkmen Forum and Turkmen Logistics Association.
