Turkmenistan and Russia Ink Agreement on Setting Up Interparliamentary Commission
The sides paid special attention to the role of the parliaments in implementing the Declaration on Deepening Strategic Partnership signed by the Presidents of Russia and Turkmenistan.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Chairman of Halk Maslakhaty chamber of Turkmen bicameral parliament Milli Gengesh, and the Chairperson of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matvienko signed an agreement on the creation of the Interparliamentary Commission on cooperation between the Federation Council and the Halk Maslakhaty on Tuesday in Moscow, according to the Press Service of the Federation Council.

Matvienko said the document "marks a new stage, a new quality of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries."

"The strategic partnership between Russia and Turkmenistan is distinguished by the exceptional sustainability of the political dialogue based on the principles of mutual respect, consideration of each other's interests," Matvienko stressed, adding that Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov "has consistently paid special attention to strengthening friendly relations between Moscow and Ashgabat, expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in a variety of directions."

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in turn, stated that Turkmen-Russian relations are developing dynamically, the parliamentary partnership and contacts between lawmakers are becoming systematic and contributing to the formation of common positions on a wide range of relations.

Valentina Matvienko proposed to hold the first session of the commission in Moscow and Astrakhan and also ordered to start the formation of the national parts of the commission, consider the date of the first session during which the rules of procedure and the annual working plan will be worked out.

The sides also paid special attention to the role of the parliaments in implementing the Declaration on Deepening Strategic Partnership signed by the Presidents of Russia and Turkmenistan.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived in Moscow on Tuesday on a three-day friendly visit. His visit program includes a photo exhibition dedicated to cooperation between the two countries and a speech at the Federation Council. He will also hold a round table with the participation of Russian senators.
