Today, the importance of environmental awareness and sustainability has transcended mere trends and become an inevitable necessity. Countries worldwide are prioritizing the fight against climate change and the protection of natural resources. However, given the historical association between economic growth and carbon emissions, it may appear that these objectives are at odds with each other. Fortunately, some countries have been able to reconcile these goals by successfully pursuing green transformation.
During the 1980s, many countries experienced a rise in carbon emissions due to increasing energy demands. Nevertheless, investments in nuclear power and the shift toward cleaner energy sources began to reverse this unfavorable trend. This is where certain countries have excelled in harmonizing economic growth with environmental protection goals.
An exemplary case of green transformation is Germany, which actively promotes environmentally sound technologies and energy sources. Through investments in renewable energy, Germany has achieved both economic growth and a reduction in carbon emissions. It has become an inspiring model for other nations to follow.
Sweden provides another noteworthy example. By adopting an environmentally sensitive approach, particularly in waste management and recycling, Sweden has bolstered its economy while curbing environmental pollution. Sweden has successfully transformed its waste into a sustainable energy source, contributing to its overall sustainability.
China, with its focus on green technologies and investments in sustainable transportation systems, also serves as a successful example. By striving to decrease carbon emissions, China aims to lead a substantial portion of its vast population toward a sustainable future.
Turkmenistan is also taking necessary measures to protect the environment and reduce methane emissions. During the UN COP26 summit in Glasgow in November 2021, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who was the Vice-Premier at the time, announced Turkmenistan's dedication to addressing environmental concerns, particularly in reducing methane and associated gas emissions during the development of oil and gas fields. He stated that Turkmenistan aims to achieve zero growth in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and to substantially reduce emissions on an annual basis in the long term, using its own financial resources and receiving technical and financial assistance from international organizations.
During the ministerial-level discussions on the economy and energy as part of the Central Asia + Japan dialogue in Tokyo on September 26, the Turkmen representatives showcased their proposed initiatives for adopting sustainable energy practices and decreasing methane emissions. They also conveyed their willingness to learn from Japan's expertise in executing such projects and collaborate in this field.
This demonstrates Turkmenistan's ongoing efforts to enhance partnerships with advanced nations, aiming to promote environmentally friendly development and advance their domestic economy.
