More than 5.3 million head of small livestock graze in the winter pastures of the Murgab Valley in the Mary velayat, the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan reported Tuesday.

Livestock farming in the region continues to grow, covering all districts of the velayat. Farmers aim to create a sustainable feed base by utilizing pastures and agricultural land. Shepherds prioritize quality feeding and animal health, drawing on their years of experience.

The Tahtabazar district leads the region with over 1.3 million sheep and goats. The herds preparing for winter remain in excellent physical condition, with all necessary feed supplies ready since last autumn.

By early December, workers completed the collection of feed, including roughage, concentrated feed, and hay. Modern agricultural equipment helped gather about half of the required feed volume, including hay and straw.

Shepherds looking to increase their livestock receive state support for distributing offspring and free access to pastures. They focus on preparing for the spring lambing, set to begin in March, with an emphasis on animal health and physical condition.
