A technical advisory mission from the European Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) is taking place in Ashgabat to develop Turkmenistan’s National Strategic Plan for Tuberculosis Control for 2026–2030, as reported by the official media of Turkmenistan Thursday.
WHO Regional Tuberculosis Adviser Dr. Askar Yedilbayev is leading the mission, which reviewed the National Tuberculosis Control Program for 2021–2025. During a meeting with Turkmenistan’s minister of health, participants discussed key aspects of the new plan, including its objectives, priority areas, and opportunities for exchanging experiences with other countries in the European region.
WHO experts proposed a draft roadmap that includes an assessment of the current program’s progress, identification of necessary measures and target indicators, as well as a preliminary analysis of financing and technical support needs.
The mission aims to strengthen Turkmenistan’s capacity in tuberculosis control and reduce the incidence rate. WHO and Turkmenistan are working together to achieve the global goal of eliminating the tuberculosis epidemic by 2030.
