Turkmen embassies in Georgia and Afghanistan held cycling events to mark World Bicycle Day and the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence, involving representatives of diplomatic missions and local partners, the Embassies of Turkmenistan in Georgia and Afghanistan reported.

The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Georgia organized a cycling race featuring members of the Georgian National Cycling Federation, athletes, and coaches on June 3, 2026,. The route ran through the streets of Tbilisi and the ancient capital of Georgia, Mtskheta.

Turkmen Ambassador to Georgia Dovlet Seyitmammedov said World Bicycle Day, established by the UN General Assembly on Turkmenistan’s initiative, promotes cycling, active lifestyles, and environmental awareness. He said cycling is gaining global popularity as an eco-friendly sport, including in Turkmenistan, which supports mass sports and health initiatives. He also noted the event marked the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence. Organizers presented commemorative gifts at the end of the race.

On the same day, authorities in Afghanistan’s Herat province organized a mass cycling event in cooperation with the Provincial Department of Sports and Physical Education under the slogan “Sovereign, Permanently Neutral Turkmenistan — A Country of Rapid Development.” The route followed a section of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) project along the Serhetabat–Herat gas pipeline corridor “On the Bright Path of the Arkadag.”

Cyclists, local officials, representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Herat, and members of the Turkmen diaspora took part. Organizers distributed commemorative gifts prepared by the Turkmen Consulate General at the conclusion of the event.
