A total of 114 transport projects worth more than $71.75 billion are being implemented or planned for implementation in Central Asia, according to updated data from the Transport Projects Observatory of the Eurasian Transport Framework (ETF) of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB). The data is as of July 1, 2026. The Observatory is a digital platform with data on the development of transport corridors in 13 countries.
According to the EDB, the Observatory includes 402 ongoing and planned projects for the development of the Eurasian Transport Framework, with a total investment volume of $345 billion. Central Asian countries account for more than 21% of the investment volume — more than $71.75 billion across 114 projects.
In 2025, major transport projects with a total investment volume of more than $6 billion were completed in Central Asia. In Turkmenistan, the Ashgabat–Mary–Turkmenabat highway and the Turkmenbashi–Garabogaz–Kazakhstan border section of the North–South International Transport Corridor were commissioned.
In Kazakhstan, the modernization of the Dostyk–Moyynty railway line was completed; in Kyrgyzstan, the construction of a tunnel at the Kök-Art Pass on the alternative North–South highway was completed; and in Tajikistan, individual sections of the Obigarm–Nurobod highway were completed. In Uzbekistan, the electrification of the Bukhara–Urgench–Khiva railway was completed, allowing high-speed passenger services to be launched.
Nearly 56% of investments in Central Asian countries are directed toward the development of the road network, while another 29.8% is allocated to the development of railway sections of transport corridors. The largest share of investments in the development of the Eurasian Transport Framework in Central Asia — $42.8 billion — is directed toward the development of sections of the TRACECA corridor, including the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. More than 45% of the total value of the projects is accounted for by Kazakhstan.
