Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a decree Friday pardoning 1,054 convicts on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence, Turkmen state media reported.
Under the decree, the pardoned individuals were released from serving their primary sentence of imprisonment, as well as an additional sentence requiring them to reside in a specified place.
At the meeting, Begench Gundogdyyev, Secretary of the State Security Council and Chairman of the Commission for Preparing Proposals on Citizenship and Pardon Issues under the President of Turkmenistan, reported on the commission’s work to pardon convicts on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of independence.
President of Turkmenistan instructed Begench Gundogdyyev, Secretary of the State Security Council and Defense Minister, together with the heads of law enforcement agencies, to take measures to release all pardoned individuals from detention and ensure their return home to their families in the near future.
The Head of state wished the pardoned citizens success in their work, sincere service to the country and a life of fulfillment through honest labor.
