Turkmenistan and Iran have temporarily opened a border crossing for truck traffic at the Sarakhs-Sarakhs checkpoint, ORIENT news outlet reported on Monday with reference to the Iranian media.
According to the head of the Iranian terminal Sarakhs Mehdi Rezai’s interview with IRNA, based on the Monday meeting with the Turkmen side and in accordance with the agreed sanitary procedures, it was decided that 10 trucks would cross the border bridge 100 meters into the territory of Turkmenistan. The trailers with cargo will be then transferred from Iranian vehicles to Turkmen, which will deliver the cargo to its destination on the territory of Turkmenistan or to a third country.
The Turkmen trucks will deliver the cargo to its final destination and return an empty trailer to Iranian drivers in Sarakhs. A similar operation is possible for Turkmen trucks entering Iran.
Since September 1, Turkmenistan has resumed regular railway communication with Iran. The movement of freight trains on a regular schedule is carried out through customs checkpoints at the Sarakhs-Sarakhs, Artyk-Lutfabat and Akyayla-Incheburun border crossings.
