Political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and India at the level of deputy foreign ministers of the two countries were held in a video conference format on Wednesday, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
The Turkmen delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev, while the Indian side was led by Vikas Swarup, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
During the constructive talks, the diplomats exchanged views on the regional and international agenda, including Afghanistan and expressed the need for further intensification of bilateral cooperation, covering the wide range of areas.
According to the statement, the meeting participants noted the fruitfulness of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the framework of the India-Central Asia Dialogue and the India-Central Asia Business Council, which are effective international platforms for exchange of views on important issues of regional development, as well as for discussion and implementation of multilateral projects.
The officials outlined among the priority joint projects the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline and noted that its construction has intensified recently.
The Turkmen side invited India to join the Investment Fund, which will be set up in Turkmenistan for the growth of the private sector.
A telephone conversation between the President of Turkmenistan and the President of India took place on October 15 last year, following which the heads of the two friendly countries agreed to comprehensively intensify mutually beneficial relations between the countries.
