New Candidates Nominated For Early Presidential Elections in Turkmenistan
A candidate nominated by initiative groups of citizens must be supported by at least 10 thousand signatures of voters.

Initiative groups of citizens in Turkmenistan’s Ahal and Mary provinces on Saturday nominated their candidates to run in March 12 early presidential elections.

The initiative group in Ahal nominated Maksatmyrat Ovezgeldiyev, Head of Sanitary-Epidemiological Service of Babadayhan etrap of the province, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.

Ovezgeldiyev graduated from the Turkmen State Medical Institute in 2007, after which did an internship at the Sanitary-Epidemiological Service of Ahal. From 2008 to 2018, he worked in various senior positions of this structure in the etraps of Ahal. Since February 2018, Ovezgeldiyev has been the Head of Sanitary-Epidemiological Service of Babadayhan etrap.

In Mary, the citizens’ group nominated Kakageldi Sariyev, Director of Research-Production center "Renewable Energy Sources" of the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan, for the highest state post.

Sariyev graduated in 1999 from the the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan with a degree in mechanical engineering. He began his career in Maryazot production association. In 2001, he worked as a process engineer, metalworker at the machine-building plant of the Mary velayat, and since October 2002 - in various positions at the State Energy Institute.

According to Article 46 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, which defines the procedure for nomination of presidential candidates by groups of citizens, a candidate must be supported by at least 10 thousand signatures of voters.

The presidential election campaign in Turkmenistan started on Monday.
