Japanese scientists have developed an innovative drug that can stimulate the growth of the third set of teeth in people.

According to the Japanese national newspaper Mainichi Shimbun, clinical trials of the drug are scheduled to begin in July 2024.

Studies show that the human body has the potential to grow a third set of teeth, but this process is blocked by the USAG-1 protein. Scientists have developed a protein-neutralizing antibody that can block the function of this protein.

Previously, the drug was successfully tested in mice, leading to the growth of new teeth in the animals.

The research team is now working to prepare the human use. The primary use of the drug is planned for the treatment of patients with adentia, but its use could be expanded in the future.
