Active participation by Turkmenistan in the Accelerated Partnership for Renewable Energy in Central Asia (APRECA) investment forum in Baku could strengthen regional dialogue on the energy transition and help advance investment projects, Trend reported, citing Director of the IRENA's Country Engagement and Partnerships Gurbuz Gonul.
The forum is scheduled for June 2026 as part of Baku Energy Week and will bring together governments, investors and developers to promote renewable energy projects and modernize power grids in Central Asia.
According to IRENA, Turkmenistan has significant potential, with around 300 sunny days per year and up to 40% of its territory suitable for wind energy. These factors create opportunities for the country to play a more active role in the regional energy transition and diversify its energy mix.
Cooperation is developing within the framework of the Accelerated Partnership for Renewable Energy in Central Asia initiative, aimed at improving regulatory frameworks, increasing investment readiness and expanding regional cooperation.
Turkmenistan has been a member of IRENA since 2018 and participates in its regional renewable energy initiatives.
