Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are interested in developing cooperation in green energy and are ready to engage in this area, Turkmenistan’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Gurbanmammet Elyasov, said in an interview with Report.
The diplomat said both countries are exploring opportunities to expand the use of renewable energy sources. Among the areas under discussion is Turkmenistan’s potential participation in the development of green energy corridors across the Caspian Sea.
The initiative envisions the creation of infrastructure to transmit electricity generated from renewable sources to Europe via the South Caucasus. In this context, Azerbaijan is seen as a transit link for green energy exports.
Gurbanmammet Elyasov said solar and wind energy projects could become promising areas of cooperation. Turkmenistan has significant potential for solar power generation, while Azerbaijan is advancing wind energy projects, including in the Caspian Sea.
The development of joint infrastructure for transmitting and exporting green electricity could also become an important area of cooperation. This may include the construction of subsea cable lines across the Caspian Sea, the integration of energy systems, and participation in regional projects aimed at exporting electricity to Europe, the diplomat said.
Gurbanmammet Elyasov added that additional opportunities for cooperation include the production and transportation of green hydrogen, the adoption of energy-efficient technologies, as well as the exchange of expertise and investment in renewable energy development.
