Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov on Tuesday participated in a high-level open debate of the United Nations Security Council, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The meeting, held under the chairmanship of China, focused on “Upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and strengthening the UN-centered international system.”

Meredov said Turkmenistan continues to pursue a foreign policy aimed at promoting peace, trust and preventive diplomacy.

He highlighted the “Peace Through Development” initiative and emphasized its connection with issues of peace, security and sustainable development.

The minister also referred to discussions held in Turkmenistan in August last year during the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which addressed issues including security, transport, energy and climate change.

Meredov placed particular emphasis on the “Dialogue is a Guarantee of Peace” initiative.

He noted that, at Turkmenistan’s initiative, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust.

Meredov also stated that Turkmenistan is proposing the designation of 2028 as the International Year of International Law within the United Nations framework.
