Herat Governor Nur Ahmad Islamjar, TAPI project representative in Afghanistan Beghench Abdullaev and Turkmen Vice Consul in Herat Beghench Shamuradov discussed the progress of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) gas pipeline project and prospects for expanding economic cooperation between the two countries, Ariana News reported on Sunday.

A representative of Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Herat also attended the meeting. The sides focused on accelerating the implementation of the TAPI project and strengthening bilateral economic relations.

During the talks, Islamjar proposed holding a joint Turkmen-Afghan trade exhibition at the Torghundi border point in Afghanistan and Serhetabat in Turkmenistan. According to his words, the initiative could help boost trade, promote domestic products, and expand economic cooperation between neighboring countries.

Begench Abdullaev thanked the authorities of Herat province for their support for the TAPI project, noting that cooperation with local administration helps speed up work on the regional energy project. He also welcomed the proposal for a joint trade exhibition, saying it would be submitted to the relevant authorities in Turkmenistan for consideration.

At the end of the meeting, the sides confirmed their intention to continue joint work, expand economic ties, and promote the effective implementation of shared development projects between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.

The TAPI gas pipeline has a total length of 1,814 kilometers, including 816 kilometers through Afghanistan to Pakistan, and is designed to transport 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year. According to Ariana News, more than 90 kilometers of the pipeline have already been laid in Herat province.
