Turkmenistan plans to begin reconstruction of the major Ashgabat-Dashoguz highway in 2026, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov announced at a meeting of the Halk Maslahaty in Ashgabat on Wednesday, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.
As the Head of state noted, to modernize roads and ensure they meet international standards, the country is consistently strengthening the material and technical base of the relevant sector, while effective work continues on the construction of highways of national importance.
This year, the Mary-Turkmenabat section of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway, with a total length of 600 kilometers, was commissioned. The Turkmenbashi-Garabogaz-Kazakhstan border highway is currently being built at an accelerated pace.
The President of Turkmenistan also noted that great importance is attached to increasing the capacity of the transport system, as well as expanding transit and international freight transportation.
As part of the development of the transport and communications complex, the national merchant fleet is being consistently modernized, the Head of state noted. This year, the first international voyage of the Gadamly dry cargo vessel, built at the Balkan Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant, was given a blessing.
