Software developers in Turkmenistan can now sell applications and games on the Google Play Store, a digital distribution service operated by Google.
According to the Google Support page updated recently, the tech giant has opened up developer and merchant registration on the Play Console to 14 new countries, including Turkmenistan.
Developer registration on the Play Console was already available for Benin, Botswana, Mali, Mozambique, Togo, and Turkmenistan, but only for free apps and games. From now on, merchant accounts for registration are also available for developers from these countries who wish to sell their paid software.
The developer default currency for Turkmenistan is the US dollar.
Google Play support was inexistent to Burundi, Congo, Guinea, Lesotho, Libya, Malawi, Mauritania, and Niger. Developers in these countries can now sign up to publish both free and paid games and apps.
Developers in over 150 locations can distribute apps on Google Play, though not every location supports merchant registration. App developers can control which countries an app is distributed to, as well as the pricing for the app and in-app purchases in each country.
As of December 2018, there were over 2.6 million apps available for download in Google Play.
