Entrepreneur Batyr Rawshanov started growing strawberries in a greenhouse in Ahal velayat’s Ak Bugday etrap in the southern Turkmenistan.

“In our greenhouse we are cultivating strawberries of the Albion variety. The seedlings were imported from Turkey, but England is the homeland of this variety,” Rawshanov said. “Because strawberries require humid conditions to grow, it produces crops all year round.”

“Strawberry is a moody plant. The variety we cultivate is not resistant to either excessive cold or excessive heat. To make her feel normal, the microclimate should be at the level of 18-25 degrees,” the entrepreneur added.

Rawshanov’s greenhouse currently employs dozens of people. Collected strawberries are then packed in special containers under the Tudana trademark and sent to retail stores of the country.

China is the world’s largest strawberry producer. The country produced 3.8 million tons of strawberries in 2019, which is 42% of the global strawberry production volume. Other primary strawberry producing countries are the USA (16%), Mexico and Egypt (5% each), and Turkey and Spain (4% each).
