Ashgabat, Moscow Discuss Inter-Parliamentary Ties
Noting the role of parliamentary friendship groups, the sides spoke in favor of organizing an exchange of experience between the deputies of Turkmenistan and Russian.

Chairperson of the Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammedova and the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko discussed the priority vectors of inter-parliamentary cooperation in a telephone conversation on Monday, TDH news agency reports.

During the phone talk, the officials noted that Turkmenistan and Russia are committed to the friendly ties and that the bilateral cooperation has been and remains one of the strategic directions of the foreign policy strategy of the Heads of both States.

Matviyenko emphasized that due to the great importance attached by Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Vladimir Putin to the development of contacts at the level of parliaments, today there is close interaction within the framework of the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS member states.

Emphasizing the importance of implementing new joint projects designed to use the existing potential and serve to strengthen traditionally productive contacts, the heads of parliaments voiced a number of specific proposals.

According to the report, in connection with the transition of the highest legislative and representative body of Turkmenistan to a bicameral system, many opportunities are opening up for expanding mutual dialogue. In this context, noting the role of parliamentary friendship groups, the sides spoke in favor of organizing an exchange of experience between the deputies of the two friendly countries.
