The Afghan government delegation on Friday left for Turkmenistan to hold talks on different issues.

"At the invitation of Turkmenistan, a senior delegation led by Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi left for Ashgabat, capital of Turkmenistan on Friday morning," the Afghan Foreign Ministry wrote on Twitter.

The delegation will discuss issues of bilateral trade, energy, petroleum products, railways and Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, as well as education scholarships with Turkmen officials.

Last Saturday, the Turkmen delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev held a series of meetings with Afghan Government officials in Afghanistan. The sides paid special attention to intensifying the pace of joint projects in key sectors, including (TAPI) gas pipeline, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line.

The TAPI pipeline is expected to carry 33 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas each year along a route stretching 1,800 km from Galkynysh, the world's second-biggest gas field, to the Indian city of Fazilka near the Pakistan border.

The Afghan section of the TAPI pipeline will run from the northwestern border with Turkmenistan, south through the western city of Herat to Kandahar near the border with Pakistan.
