Hazar Balyk (Caspian Fish) Open Joint Stock Company, the leading producer of fish products in Turkmenistan, produced aroud 1 million different types of canned fish in 2021, the country’s Rysgal newspaper reported on Monday.
The company, based in the Turkmenbashi etrap of Balkan velayat, is engaged in artificial breeding of fish, production of fish caviar and fish products.
Hazar balyk OJSC employs more than 200 people. The company produces tons of cold and hot smoked fish delicacies. The smoking of fish is generally done for the unique taste and flavour imparted by the smoking process. The method also preserves vitamins useful for human health. The company also produces salted and spiced pickled fish.
Hazar Balyk OJSC was jointly founded by the local private companies Myradym, Guş toplumy and Rowana and Halys in 2013. The company also exports its fish products.
There are over 100 species of fish in the Caspian Sea. The most commons are beluga, bream, carp, ram, herring, mullet, pike, zander, perch, carp and sprat. The sturgeon is one of the most ancient and valuable fish in this large inland body of water. 20 percent of the world reserves of sturgeon, also called “red fish”, live in the Caspian Sea.
