Trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Russia in the first quarter of 2022 saw an increase of more than 45% compared to the same period of last year and amounted to $171.1 million, the TASS news agency reported with reference to the Kremlin’s materials for the meeting of the two countries' presidents Vladimir Putin and Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Friday.
During the period, the exports of Russia to Turkmenistan increased by 49.3% to $124 million, and the imports increased by 35% to $47.1 million.
Last year, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $865.1 million, a decrease of 10.8% compared to 2020.
The main Russian exports to Turkmenistan include machinery, equipment and vehicles, food products and agricultural raw materials, chemical products, metals and metal products. Russia mainly imports textiles and footwear, foodstuffs, products of the chemical industry and rubber from Turkmenistan, according to the Kremlin.
The meeting of the Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov with the Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected result in the signing of a number of documents on trade-economic cooperation between Russia and Turkmenistan.
