On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of independence of neutral Turkmenistan, celebrated this year, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave an interview to the Chairman of the Mir Interstate TV and Radio Company Radik Batyrshin in Ashgabat. The interview was aired on Mir TV on Monday.
In an interview, the President of Turkmenistan spoke about the country's achievements since it gained independence, and stressed that over the years of its independence, programs have been implemented aimed at modernizing the national economy, integrating Turkmenistan into the global economic system.
The Head of State said over the years of independence, the country’s GDP has grown by 8.4 times and the total volume of basic investments in the country's economy reached $209 billion. Of these, around $140 billion, or 66.6%, are directed to the manufacturing sector, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov continued, adding that excluding the fuel and energy complex, the share of the private sector in the country's GDP presently stands at 70%.
The Turkmen President also informed about the country's environmental policy, outlining ecology and environmental protection, the development of green economy among the state priorities.
“The country is actively introducing adaptation measures to restore forests and improve land use to mitigate climate impacts, and plants millions of tree seedlings. In total, over 90 million have been planted in the country over the past 20 years. This year, another 30 million seedlings will be planted in the country,” President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in an interview.
The Head of State also spoke about the interstate relations of Turkmenistan with the CIS countries.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Chairman Radik Batyrshin also conversed on the factors of Turkmen neutrality and its influence on the course and direction of the processes taking place in Central Asia and neighboring regions. In this regard, the Head of State noted that an important aspect of the positive impact of Turkmenistan's neutrality is the economic component.
At the end of the interview, the Chairman of the Mir Interstate TV and Radio Company Radik Batyrshin thanked President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the interview, and for close partnership.
