Turkic Council Countries Support Turkmenistan’s Admission as Observer to Organization
The Turkic Council consists of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan as member countries.

The member countries of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States (Turkic Council) unanimously supported the granting of observer status to Turkmenistan at the organization, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said in his letter addressed to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

“We are very pleased with the decision of Turkmenistan to obtain observer status within this organization,” Ilham Alivev said, adding that as the country chairing the Turkic Council this year, Azerbaijan conveyed the appeal of the Turkmen side to the rest of the member states. The letter of the Azerbaijan’s President was published by the official Turkmen media on Thursday.

The President of Azerbaijan also said the Turkic Council member countries will be glad see the participation of Turkmenistan as an observer state at the upcoming VIII summit of the organization in Istanbul.

The Azerbaijani Leader expressed confidence that the decision of Turkmenistan will further strengthen the unity and solidarity in the Turkic world and further deepen cooperation between the Turkic-speaking states.

The Turkic Council was established in 2009 as an intergovernmental organization. It consists of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan as member countries and Hungary as an observer state.
