Russia Imports 5,000 Tons of Turkmen Tomatoes Since 2023 Start
Turkmenistan accounts for a significant share of supplies of fresh tomatoes to the Russian market, and every year the country increases exports in this direction.

Since the start of 2023, the Department of Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) for Moscow, Moscow Region and Tula Region has inspected and carried out phytosanitary quarantine control of about 5,000 tons of fresh tomatoes from Turkmenistan that entered the Moscow Region in more than 270 trucks.

Turkmenistan accounts for a significant share of supplies of fresh tomatoes to the Russian market, and every year the country increases exports in this direction, Rosselkhoznadzor said in its Monday press release.

Specialists of the All-Russian Plant Quarantine Center carried out laboratory tests, which confirmed the compliance of these products with quarantine phytosanitary requirements, according to the report.

After successfully passing the quarantine phytosanitary control procedure, the tomatoes were released for sale in Russia.

Turkmen tomatoes are mainly exported to Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan. Dozens of Turkmen private producers grow vegetables indoors on an area of more than 670 hectares.

Rosselkhoznadzor is a federal body that exercises oversight over veterinary medicine and agricultural production and byproducts in Russia. It is part of the Russia's Ministry of Agriculture.
