Turkmen Foreign Minister Meets U.S. Deputy Secretary of State

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov on 27 May met in New York with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. The meeting took place on the sidelines of a United Nations Security Council session, according to Landau’s post on his X social media account.

During the talks, the sides discussed the current state of bilateral relations between Turkmenistan and the United States, as well as prospects for further cooperation.

Landau said Washington is intensifying engagement with Central Asian countries under the leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor.

He also noted the significant economic and trade potential of Central Asian countries and said it was a great honor for him to meet with Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Meredov arrived in New York on 26 May on a working visit to participate in a high-level open debate titled “Upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and strengthening the UN-centered international system,” held within the framework of the UN Security Council session.
