Turkmen Foreign Minister Meets U.S. Deputy Secretary of State in Washington
Meeting between Rashid Meredov and Christopher Landau, May 27, 2026, USA

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in Washington on May 27, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.

The sides discussed current issues and prospects for further development of Turkmen-U.S. cooperation in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, educational, cultural and humanitarian spheres, as well as other areas of mutual interest.

The officials noted the successful holding of the C5+1 Summit in Washington in November 2025, including the meeting between the President of Turkmenistan and the President of the United States held on the sidelines of the event. According to the sides, the contacts gave new impetus to bilateral relations.

Particular attention was paid to strengthening trade and economic partnership and expanding cooperation with U.S. business circles. In this context, the sides highlighted the significance of the visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the United States earlier this year, during which meetings with representatives of American businesses were held.

The parties also exchanged views on preparations for the upcoming visit of the U.S.-Turkmenistan Business Council delegation to Turkmenistan and the next round of annual bilateral consultations between the Turkmen Foreign Ministry and the U.S. Department of State, planned to take place in Ashgabat.

Following the meeting, Turkmenistan and the United States reaffirmed their readiness to continue regular dialogue aimed at further strengthening mutually beneficial partnership.
