During a meeting of the State Security Council of Turkmenistan on Wednesday, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a Decree On Improvement of System of Internal Passports in Turkmenistan, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) reports.
The main goal of the document is to improve the procedure for drawing-up and issuing passports to citizens of Turkmenistan, their residence registration and termination of the registration in accordance with the Law On Migration and On Internal Affairs Authority of Turkmenistan.
According to the Decree:
- The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan is instructed to ensure the registration and issuance of a passport of a citizen of Turkmenistan within seven working days, registration of residence and termination of the registration of the citizens of Turkmenistan and preparation of blank passport and other official documents related to the passport system.
- The Prosecutor General of Turkmenistan and the prosecutors should ensure control over compliance with the law when considering issues of registration, issuance of a passport of a citizen of Turkmenistan, and their residence registration and termination of the registration.
- Ministries, sectoral departments, hyakimliks (administrations) and all other institutions, enterprises and organizations, regardless of their organizational and legal form, should exclude the requirement of various certificates from citizens in case when the necessary information can be confirmed by presenting a passport of a citizen of Turkmenistan.
- The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan, hyakimliks of the velayats and the Ashgabat city, together with the Ministry of Justice of Turkmenistan, should prepare and submit to the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan proposals on amendments and additions to the legislation of Turkmenistan arising from the Decree.
