Citizens of Turkmenistan who are stuck in foreign countries for reasons beyond their control can extend the validity of their international passports until December 31, 2022 in accordance with the new Procedure for renewal of the documents. The corresponding Procedure was published on the official website of the Ministry of Justice of the country.
According to the new Procedure, it is possible to renew an international passport if its validity period expires or has already expired from January 1, 2020 to December 30, 2022.
To extend the validity, citizens must contact the nearest diplomatic mission of Turkmenistan, write an application in a free form and fill out a questionnaire provided by the mission staff, as well as attach a passport, a copy of it and a photo (3x4 or 4x5 cm) to the application. The application can be submitted either in person or by mail.
The validity period of the passport is extended with a special stamp and a QR code, which stores information about the renewal. They are attached to the document.
According to the Procedure, this service is free, but the applicant must pay the cost of the postal order, if the application is sent by mail.
The new Procedure was developed in accordance with the Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov dated July 1, 2021.
