National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Wednesday visited the burial site of Turkmenistan’s first president, Saparmurat Niyazov, and members of his family following the Eid al-Adha prayer at the Turkmenbashi Ruhy Mosque.
According to the Watan news program, members of the Council of Elders and foreign diplomats accredited in Turkmenistan also took part in the ceremony. Participants recited verses from the Quran and offered prayers for the souls of the deceased.
Later that day, Berdimuhamedov hosted a sadaqah meal at the Märkaw cultural and entertainment center in the city of Arkadag. Prayers were offered for the prosperity of the country, national unity and peace.
Berdimuhamedov also visited the site of a 30,000-seat mosque under construction in Arkadag and reviewed the progress of the project.
