Turkmenistan to Build New 1,574 Megawatts Power Plant in Balkan
The new plant will be Turkmenistan’s second combined cycle gas turbine power plant.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during the online cabinet meeting on Friday approved the proposal to build a combined cycle gas turbine power plant with 1,574 megawatts capacity in the country’s western province Balkan, the country’s official media reports.

The proposal was voiced by Baymyrat Annamammedov, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers overseeing the industrial and construction complex. The Vice-Premier’s report focused on the measures to create additional energy capacities in connection with the increasing economic power of Turkmenistan, increasing electricity consumption and constant growth of demand for Turkmen electricity in foreign markets.

The construction of the new power plant is envisaged in the Investment Program for 2023, according to the report.

The new plant will be Turkmenistan’s second combined cycle gas turbine power plant. The country’s first such plant with an annual capacity of 1,574 MW went into operation in 2018, in Mary province.
