American Councils – Turkmenistan announces Mary American Corner Manager position
VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: MARY AMERICAN CORNER MANAGER POSITION

Position Description
SUMMARY
The Mary American Corner (MAC) Manager position is responsible for the administrative and programmatic management of the Mary American Corner. This position reports directly to the American Corner Grant Manager. However, on administrative issues this position may report directly to the Country Director or the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Turkmenistan. This position requires frequent coordination with other American Councils staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the overall operations of MAC, including the library and internet center;
- Serve as a representative of American Councils and provide information on U.S. government-funded programs, events, and services in Mary;
- Administering and overseeing all local programming, including workshops, group studies, and other events;
- Provide general oversight and support to other U.S. government-funded programs and activities administered by the U.S. Embassy in Turkmenistan and/or American Councils;
- Coordinate and communicate with both American Councils and the U.S. Embassy in Ashgabat on initiatives, events, programs, and operations on a day-to-day basis;
- Provide regular, timely, detailed, and accurate written reports on MAC operations and activities to both American Councils and the U.S. Embassy in Ashgabat;
- Maintain cordial, transparent working relationships with the local authorities other local and international organizations based in the region;
- Submit a monthly Activity Calendar to the OBLONO, Hakimlik, and any other local authorities who request it at least one week before the month begins;
- Supervise all MAC-based staff members
- Manage MAC finances, financial reports, and back up documentation;
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned by American Corners Grant Manager, Country Director, or Public Affairs Staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned by both the Country Director and the AC Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidates should be mature individuals with a professional attitude, possess strong verbal and written communications skills in Turkmen, English, and Russian, as well as be highly organized and personable;
- Good knowledge of U.S. culture and U.S. higher education system (experience participating in it preferred);
- Strong writing, communication, cross-cultural, and interpersonal skills;
- Experience with online and digital technologies preferred;
- Experience in activity/project organization;
- Previous experience in Management preferred;
- Strong leadership skills and ability to organize, encourage, inspire, and motivate peers;
- Creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to manage time, abide by rules, demonstrate accountability, and understand the need for quality in work;
- Computer skills, including strong knowledge of Word, Excel, and Power Point;
- Ability to work with a team;
- Turkmen citizenship.
In general, all American Councils staff members are expected to support a positive, team atmosphere and step outside of their formal roles from time-to-time to support the organization, special initiatives, or individual programs when needed.
